Apple a day…….keeps more than a doctor away.

Add apples to your daily routine
It is suggested that a diet high in fruits and vegetables may decrease the risk of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer, and phytochemicals including phenolics, flavonoids and carotenoids from fruits and vegetables may play a key role in reducing chronic disease risk.

Apples, while having a higher sugar content than most fruits, are regarded as a source of health food that can aid in a diet plan. Juicing apples at fruition is a main ingredient for many of the juice and vegetable combinations. The reason is that the apple helps to sweeten the drink and make the vegetables easier to drink. While you are consuming a natural sweetener it is NOT sugar or processed. Most people do not consume freshly juiced apples. The combination is natural and makes the drink taste good. There is no reason to drink a vegetable drink that does not taste good, although that is a taste preference. I have many customers that drink all veggie drinks of pure spinach, beet, kale greens, carrot, asparagus, celery etc, and love it. I myself enjoy the ability to try different combinations that taste good and are good for my health.

Lets get through the science of the apple.
Apples are a widely consumed, rich source of phytochemicals, and epidemiological studies have linked the consumption of apples with reduced risk of some cancers, cardiovascular disease, asthma, and diabetes.

According to , Jeanelle Boyer and Rui Hai Liu (2009) of the Department of Food Science and Institute of Comparative and Environmental Toxicology, Cornell University, Ithaca, suggests In the laboratory, apples have been found to have very strong antioxidant activity, inhibit cancer cell proliferation, decrease lipid oxidation, and lower cholesterol. Apples contain a variety of phytochemicals, including quercetin, catechin, phloridzin and chlorogenic acid, all of which are strong antioxidants. The phytochemical composition of apples varies greatly between different varieties of apples, and there are also small changes in phytochemicals during the maturation and ripening of the fruit. Storage has little to no effect on apple phytochemicals, but processing can greatly affect apple phytochemicals.

Processed Apples products
As with many natural products once it has been cut, cooked, pasteurized, opened and peeled, it begins to oxidize and nutrients are weakened. The sooner you eat it the better. With juicing the apple it begins to oxidize immediately, within minutes you can see the juice turn brown. There is still a great deal of nutrition at this point but the longer it sits the weaker it gets. Flash Pasteurizing ( a process of quickly heating and not boiling, works to preserve the apple juice and does work for shelf stability but still holds a great deal of nutrients, but not as much as fresh. At Fruition we do use Fresh Apple cider for the smoothies and frosties because we do not use water. The key is to use fresh fruits in all our drinks that are juiced and never use processed foods.
IQF or quickly frozen fruits are a good solution to having a high quality product that is preserved fresh. So long as the fruit or vegetable is whole. A blueberry or strawberry that has been flash pasteurized at the peak of its freshness or once it has come to “fruition” is frozen and when we use it it is at its sweetest. Using fresh fruits and vegetables is our main goal and at Fruition we look to keep the integrity of our products.

Combine Apples with herbs and roots
Apples combined with herbs at roots such as spirulina, ginger root, garlic, lecitin etc, can add additional nutrients to enhance the health benefits of your juice drink. Research on many of these added ingredients will support many theories on the usage for diet and nutrition. A meal replacement drink such as a Large 20oz, Carrot, Apple and Spinach is only 240 calories, and will give you energy for hours, make you feel full and sustain you because it was real food from the source. If you add Whey protein, spirulina, some berries or ginger root, you have not concocted a super food drink. This type of Super Apple drink will extend the benefits of aa work out routine, diet program or lifestyle change.

With all the different varieties of apples to choose from with different levels of sweetness, texture and taste, from sour to sweet, they add a great flavor to the juice drinks we make at Fruition Juice.
